The HVAC Designer is responsible for transforming the building needs and desires of the client into realistic schematics,
layouts and plans for execution.
The New Home Designer specializing in mechanical & energy will also complete HVAC design and coordination, energy
modelling coordination, net zero planning and building science development, as well as electrical design and coordination.
Reporting Structure:
• Manager of New Home Design and Decor
• No Direct reports. Works in close coordination with other members of the Design team, plus all other departments.
Education and Qualifications:
• Post secondary education in Architectural Technology or other equivalent studies and experience
• Knowledge in HVAC principles
Required Knowledge/Skills:
• Proficient in Revit and excel, and ability to maintain good email organization
• Working knowledge of ventilation principals, HVAC systems and physics of building science are an asset
• Willingness to learn new computer programs
• Open minded and team focused approach to tackling projects
• Ability to adapt to changes quickly, while maintaining company/design team values
• Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking and time management techniques
• Good understanding of co-worker’s tasks to ensure everyone’s time is being used effectively and prioritized
• Ability to work individually, as well as a strong team player and a good leader & mentor

Essential Functions/Duties and Key Responsibilities:
• Design activities inclusive of submission of building permits
• Work from client drawings, and elevation to create custom designs according to DTL specs
• Development of new standard plans with Design team
• Develop & maintain standard plans for mechanical layouts. Coordinate the accurate calculation of HLHG (heat loss
heat gain) metrics, maintaining “right sizing” of mechanicals for each individual home’s construction
• Develop forced air system design standards, mechanical ventilation standards and best practices for installation
• Facilitate routine feedback with HVAC, plumbing & electrical trades for quality assurance onsite
• Strategize warranty solutions and recommend action plans
• Refinement of functional floorplan design to meet mechanical installation needs
• Routine communication with equipment manufacturers
• Develop a ventilation strategy for standard plans
• Home Energy modelling/Home Performance coordination
• Confirm net zero homes are meeting Gigajoule (GJ) targets
• Assessment/planning of DTL standards to meet Energy Performance requirements, and Net Zero ready construction
• Net zero Ready/Net Zero planning & solar partner coordination

• Take the approach that at times, additional time and effort will be required to achieve a task that has sensitive deadlines.

Work / Life Balance:
• Overtime is not forbidden; however chronic overtime is strongly discouraged and if necessary, overtime hours will
require approval from immediate supervisor
• Employee must ensure an appropriate work / life balance and holidays are to be scheduled and taken
• The employee is encouraged to participate in the Employee Wellness Plan
Hourly wage is $25 to $27 per hour
