The Opportunity

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for leading, developing, and engaging employees within the Shipping/Receiving Department to accomplish assigned objectives applicable to the shipping and receiving functions. This person is also responsible for results directly tied to logistical operations including, but not limited to, efficiency, timeliness, safety, process improvement, and quality.

In this role you will:
• Coordinate and issue all daily shipping/receiving activities within the department based on production and customer demand.
• Understand and execute shipping team functions according to defined safety, quality, cost, and delivery metrics set out.
• Ensure the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of all outbound shipments completed by the shipping team at the corporate warehouse.
• Schedule daily outbound LTL, intermodal, and small package shipments with core carriers.
• Verify the quantities, weights, and dimensions on prepared shipping docs against customer order shipments.
• Provide accurate freight quotes to Customer Service Reps within 24 hours from time of request.
• Complete scheduled carrier performance evaluations and review shipping rates.
• Initiate and follow through on all tasks associated with the freight claim process.
• Coordinate outbound shipments with the Customer Service Reps.
• Troubleshoot shipping and receiving related
• Initiate Root Cause Analysis for all shipping/receiving issues
• Resolve finished goods inventory issues affecting order fulfillment
• Maintain receiving, warehouse and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and promoting operational and personnel policies and procedures.
• Safeguard warehouse operations and content by controlling and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
• Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal laws and regulations regarding logistics and hazardous materials, and ensure carriers are in compliance.
• Implement staff development opportunities through the use of education, communication, and clear expectations.
• Improve team performance through use of Lean methodology and industry best practices.
• Communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as with vendors, and other business partners.
• Oversee shipping/receiving personnel
• Set and sustain a level of leadership performance
• Draft monthly Shipping Team schedules that align with customer and production demand.
• Update and report daily Shipping/Receiving metrics when required.
• Conduct daily stand-up meetings with the shipping and receiving departments.
• Serve as a manager representative for meetings in the absence of the Materials Manager.
• Escalate operational needs through proper management channels and adhere to protocols set by the management team.

What You Need
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience in a production and/or warehouse environment.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
• Forklift Certification (or ability to be certified) is required.
• Lean Certification preferred.
