POSITION SUMMARY:
• Responsible for leading the team at the assigned program to ensure the implementation of the before and after
• school program based on London Children’s Connection’s Program Statement.
• Demonstrates a commitment to a team approach.
• Responsible for ensuring all administrative duties are completed.
• Will be scheduled to work, potentially for full days, on professional activity days.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Follows, and ensures all staff, students and volunteers in the assigned program follow London Children’s Connection’s Program Statement, policies and procedures, and Individual Plans to ensure high quality experiences for children and families.
• Provides leadership in the delivery of a safe, healthy environment for children through responsible supervision and decision making based upon knowledge of children, emergency procedures, hygiene and the safe use of equipment and materials. Makes the well-being of children the highest priority.
• Actively participates in all aspects of the program and is a mentor to staff, students and volunteers in the assigned program.
• Implements, and models for the team, a variety of positive approaches towards supporting children’s success and the development of self-regulation, which are consistent with London Children’s Connection’s Program Statement, policies, procedures and philosophy.
• Models appropriate strategies to assist children in resolving conflicts. In challenging situations, determines appropriate strategies and interventions through consultation and discussion with the team and Program Coordinator, or designate.
• Practices supportive and respectful interactions with children, to ensure children feel a sense of security and belonging.
• Leads the team to plan child-initiated experiences by providing choices, opportunities for independence, and incorporating the interest of the children into programming.
• Provides leadership to the team to ensure all children and families experience an inclusive environment by being equitable and respecting the values and diversity of the community.
• Ensures children are released to properly authorized persons.
• Respects and practices confidentiality of information regarding children, families and colleagues.
• Displays a willingness to be flexible, to try new ideas, to seek out opportunities to enhance the program by following through on the goals and actions in the Program Summary. London Children’s Connection Job Description (Supervisor SAP)
• Supports the toileting of children from kindergarten to school aged, as required.
• Presents a professional manner through appearance, positive and timely communication, and separating personal viewpoints from professional perspectives.
• Complies with all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures, works within the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, and reports any potentially hazardous circumstances to her/his Program Coordinator, or designate. Follows procedures for fire drills on a monthly basis.
• Communicates any changes in information to the Program Coordinator, or designate i.e. registration information, attendance, daily journals. Forwards information for approval to the Program Coordinator, or designate i.e. program and snack plans, time sheet, etc.
• Communicates daily with parents in an open, supportive manner. Responds to parent requests, suggestions, inquiries and concerns on a daily basis.
• Leads the team to encourage parental involvement through regular contact, planning of special events and adaptation of program plans.
• Works in collaboration with school personnel and community partners, i.e. All Kids Belong, to meet the individual needs of children.
• Is knowledgeable of possible signs of child abuse, neglect and family violence, and their particular duty to report their suspicions to the Children’s Aid Society.
• Participates in Support Sessions and regularly scheduled professional learning opportunities throughout the year. Individually, and within learning communities, educators review, discuss, share and reflect on topics that are relevant to providing quality care for children and effective support for families.
• Demonstrates a strong commitment through attendance, punctuality and enthusiasm.
• Completes and maintains accurate records on site, as required by the Ministry of Education and London Children’s Connection.
• Prepares and provides a nutritious snack daily, in accordance with the policies of the School Age Program. May be responsible for purchasing and recording expenditures for snacks.
• Monitors and maintains program supplies, rotates toys and utilizes the London Children’s Connection resource centre regularly.
• Responsible for the program cell phone, responds to calls promptly, ensures that the phone is with them at all times during program operation.
• Distributes written information to all parents as requested by the Program Coordinator, or designate.
• Informs and consults with the Program Coordinator on all relevant issues pertaining to children, parents and program operation.
• Maintains applicable certifications and professional qualifications as required by the Ministry of Education and London Children’s Connection. Early Childhood Educators maintain membership in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
